Acceptable Use Policy.

What's allowed (and not) on CSN-UK servers — to keep our network fast, lawful and fair for everyone.

Template draft. This page is a structured starting point — please review with legal counsel before publishing. Sections marked […] need confirming or completing.

1. Scope

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to anyone using a CSN-UK service. It forms part of our Terms of Service. Breaching the AUP can lead to suspension or termination of your account.

2. Prohibited content

You must not host, store, transmit or link to:

  • Material that is illegal under UK law, including child sexual abuse material, content that incites terrorism, or material that infringes someone else's intellectual-property rights.
  • Content that is defamatory, harassing, or that constitutes hate speech.
  • Phishing pages, fake login forms, or other content designed to deceive.
  • Malware, ransomware, viruses, trojans, exploit kits, or any other malicious code.
  • Content prohibited by export-control law.

3. Prohibited activity

You must not use our services to:

  • Send unsolicited bulk email (spam) — including via mailing lists where recipients have not opted in.
  • Run open mail relays or open proxies.
  • Distribute denial-of-service traffic or attempt to disrupt other networks.
  • Mine cryptocurrency on shared hosting (which interferes with other customers' performance).
  • Run public-facing torrent trackers or trade in pirated content.
  • Probe, scan, or otherwise attempt unauthorised access to any system.
  • Host bulk file-sharing services or content delivery for files unrelated to a hosted website.

4. Resource use

Shared hosting plans are designed for typical website workloads. To keep the network fast for everyone:

  • You must not knowingly use disproportionate CPU, memory, disk I/O or database resources.
  • Long-running background processes are not permitted on shared plans.
  • "Unlimited" features (mailboxes, FTP accounts, databases, etc.) are unlimited within reasonable use; we may contact you if usage looks like commercial-grade demand that needs a more appropriate product.

5. Email use

  • You are responsible for the lawful operation of any email lists you run.
  • All bulk mailings must be sent only to recipients who have explicitly opted in, with a clear unsubscribe mechanism on every message.
  • Mailing accounts may have rate limits to prevent abuse and protect the reputation of our IP space.

6. Security and your responsibilities

  • Keep applications and plugins (e.g. WordPress core, themes, plugins) up to date.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for the client area and for any application logins.
  • Do not share your account credentials.
  • Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

7. Reporting abuse

If you believe a CSN-UK customer is breaching this AUP, please report it through the support ticket system at secure.csn-uk.net/submitticket.php with as much detail as possible (URL, date/time, evidence).

8. Enforcement

We may, at our discretion and where reasonable in the circumstances:

  • Contact you to ask you to remediate an issue.
  • Suspend specific features (e.g. outbound mail).
  • Suspend your account pending investigation.
  • Terminate your account in cases of serious or repeated breach.
  • Cooperate with law-enforcement and regulators where required.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last reviewed" date above reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be notified to active customers in advance.
